Contraception

Children of the Border is the only provider of free and delivered contraceptives to families living in the southern border region of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Our work consists of:

  • Running a clinic where women can come once a week to receive free health checkups by a doctor, and obtain free education on family planning.
  • Distributing free contraceptives in the form of pills, injection, and condoms to all who request, for free. We have three main distribution points: at the clinic which opens every Saturday, home delivery by our healthcare workers, and by our network of community volunteers which help us get to otherwise difficult-to-reach members of the populations, such as sexually active teenagers.
  • Running regular community meetings where women can come, enjoy a meal, and speak among each other about family planning, get free contraceptives, and get information from community health workers.
Pregnant women can come to Casa de Salud, a clean house, close to the hospital, where they can rest and be with their babies after birth.
